The U.S.Coast Guard Auxiliary, the U.S. Power Squadron and various companies offer Boating Safety courses. Find out more about the U.S. Power Squadron’s educational opportunities by going to www.usps.org and then to the "Locate Things" button. When the screen drops down, click on it to find a squadron. If you select a state, information for the whole state will appear. To see the 33 districts, go to "Map Search." Clicking a district's number gives all the squadrons in the district. Collect the squadron names you need, then go back to "Locate A Squadron" page and click on the first initial. That squadron's Web site should come up. For question, call 1-888-367-8777.

Recently, Sea Sense . . . The Women’s Sailing and Powerboating School, out of St Petersburg, Fla., told us about a venture reaching to Britain for the first time.
Sea Sense plans an eight-day, powerboating class for women along the River Thames during June of 2012. Their literature says, “The course will take you to some of the oldest and prettiest towns and villages in the heart of England. On the banks of the river, we’ll see Oxford with the gleaming spires of its many cathedrals and university buildings, as well as Eton College. Windsor Castle, with its great Royal Park, is still used as a Royal residence today; the flag flies when the Queen is at home. Other stops along the way may include Hampton Court Palace, the Ascot Race course and the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.”
Students will learn aboard a fully equipped, comfortable, modern canal barge, traversing 20 locks, practicing boat handling, docking and close-quarters maneuvering. Course departs the village of Benson and ends in Chertsey. The cost is $3,395 and includes breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and beverages.
